PALAZZO VESCOVILE

Palazzo Vescovile

Built in 1596, enlarged in the following century, and completed in the mid eighteenth century, it is built around an expansive style internal courtyard portico and loggia, realised by the architect  Giovanni Biagio Amico, at the same time as the works for the seminary. On the imposing neoclassical style façade the rich Doric doorway stands out, with a balcony above it. On the first floor it holds a sixteenth century salon with the portraits of various bishops from Mazara, put in chronological order, from 1097. Adjacent to the palazzo is the ancient seat of the seminary, crowned with a lovely eighteenth century small loggia  which,  extending with three arches over the bridge, the so called tocchetto connects it to the cathedral.
