“Ettore Majorana” Centre for Scientific Culture

Built in 1542 as a monastery next to the Saint Peter’s Church. The building was used a convent by the Clarisse sisters up to the middle of the nineteenth century. After 1866, with its religious dissolution, the city used it as an orphanage giving it the name of “Queen Margaret Institute”. With the return of the clergy, the sisters of Saint Vincent changed only the name of the institute to “Saint Rocco Institute” while remaining an orphanage. The main façade has an interesting portal with an oval arvch form with evident markings of the fifth century. Since 1963 it is the seat off the International Centre of Scientific Culture “Ettore Majorana”.
