Marsala boasts museum institutions of great importance and archaeological and painting laboratories. The Regional Archaeological Museum “Baglio Anselmi“ holds artefacts from the ancient Lilibeo, including the beautiful statue of Venere Callipige and the interesting wreck of a Punic ship whose sinking is dateable to the mid III century B.C., coinciding with the battle of the Egadi islands (241 B.C).
